What’s In Store for the 49ers? by John Brennan, age 12

Start

SAN FRANCISCO CA- The 49ers last season, to say the least, was not great. They went 6-11 compared to the 2023-24 season where they went 12-5. The 49ers have done many things to try to improve their team in the offseason. Many players were released to re-sign Brock Purdy. The 49ers have made moves like this to secure young but talented players. This strategy seems to be the reason for moves like Purdy’s.

Recently they signed Malik Knowles who was an undrafted free agent in 2023 signed by the Vikings. Knowles will help create a younger team. The 49ers also signed middle career players like Chazz Surratt, Ben Bartch, and Jordan Elliot. These players also fit in with the coaching system. Like Chazz Surratt who fits in well with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh because they both used to be on the Jets. The 49ers have also released older players like Alex Barrett who played for them for four years.

Another positive about having younger players is that they get injured less. Last season the 49ers had many important players who were injured like Cristian McCaffrey. Some of them are still injured, Brandon Ayuk is still in rehab but is practicing less hard with the team. Although most of them are back at training camp. Klye Shanahan, the head coach, says “Ji’ayir Brown, ankle and hamstring surgery, expected to be at (training) camp. Rickey Pearsall, hamstring injury, going to be back by camp.” Shanahan continues talking about players who were injured last season but are no longer.

All of these aspects make the next season look more successful.
