An electrifying combination of nerves and excitement spreads like wildfire as the lights begin to dim. The music begins and the hands-down most attention-grabbing, energy-inducing, competitive, and exciting evening at WriCampia hits the ground running. It’s time for the 2025 Upper and Senior Camp WriCampia Lip-Sync Battle!
This year, a few crowd favorites were 3A’s jaw-dropping “My Little Pony” costumes and choreography, and 8A’s surprising use of lights and dazzling choreography. These unfortunately did not receive awards, but other eye-catching, super-polished performances did receive recognition. Wel-B-Yon C received an honorable mention for their outstanding performance to “Mr. Brightside,” which included visual effects with bubbles and glow sticks. Best of all, it ended with the judges dancing on stage with them.
Two bunks tied for third place: 2A captivated and thrilled the audience with a routine to “Ex-Wives” from Six; 9B shocked and confused the crowd when they transitioned from a short acapella rendition of “I’m Just Seb” to a wild routine ridden with fake collapses, resuscitations, and imaginary instrument-playing to a classical piece with no lyrics, and therefore no lip-syncing. In second place, WBY B recreated Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s famous “I Want It That Way” scene with a fitness twist: spoken lines, mug shot background, and all.
Finally, in first place, WBY A wowed the judges and crowd with their incredible choreography, lip-syncing, acting, and simple but seamlessly coordinated costumes in their performance of Mamma Mia’s “Honey Honey.” “Everyone in their bunk had an important role and it was just so tight,” shared one judge. As per usual, several groups were upset with their scores and/or the rankings generally. The lip-syncing battle is particularly entertaining because of how competitive it is, but unfortunately this causes many to learn about disappointment the hard way. The 2025 Upper and Senior Camp Lip-Syncing Battle was an energizing, entertaining, and emotional night that campers and staff alike will never forget. ✎
