Cinnamoroll: The Mysterious Case of the Fluffy Little Boy by Norah Schechter, age 12 & Yearly WriCampian Staff

Hey there, campers: gather around for a little story about a super cute character that has everyone chattering— Cinnamoroll! You might know him as the super cute, big-eared puppy from the show The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends, but let’s make something clear: This lustrous wonder is coincidentally a boy! I found out that not everyone knows this while I was talking to a friend at camp.

This is how it started: Kunsel looked at my plushie and said, “Oh, she’s so cute!” and with that, I knew that I needed to fix the misunderstanding: my favorite Hello Kitty character was being mistaken for a girl! I also asked Thomas Khan and Iris Yang from RPG what they thought. Thomas told me that he thinks that Cinnamoroll is nonbinary, which I think is super interesting. Iris, on the other hand, told me Cinnamoroll’s gender is simply a dog! Meanwhile, I know Cinnamoroll is a boy because in the official show, he uses he/him pronouns. Cinnamoroll being a girl is just a silly assumption.

Let’s discuss those giant, floppy ears. Some people see those cute ears and think, “Aha! That must be a girl.” But hold on. Ears do not have genders! Look at our ears – they come in all shapes and sizes, just like Cinnamoroll’s.

The good ol’ roll’s name can be a bit misleading. After all, it would be easy to mistake the fluff-filled creature for a female.

The cuteness level here is off the charts, and people might think, “Only a girl would have a tail so adorable.” But again, wrong. If that was the case, we’d have to crown a whole army of cinnamon roll-tailed heroes. Boys can be cuddly, too, you know!

Cinnamoroll is a stress-free pup. He’s too busy spending time with his friends, cuddling up for naptime, and enjoying yummy snacks with everyone. After all, being a boy or a girl doesn’t change how awesome he is.

So, the next time someone says Cinnamoroll is a girl, educate them about the truth. After all, Cinnamoroll is just here to express his soft colors: blue, white, and a flushed pink hue. ✎
