Dinner before Sunday’s lip sync battle: rice, chicken, tzatziki, and a side of controversy. Normally, songs aren’t shared between bunks. But Sunday was anything but normal…
“What song are you guys doing?”
“‘Sk8er Boi.’”
“Wait, we’re doing ‘Sk8er Boi,’ too.”
Now, two groups performing the same song is a coincidence. Three groups? That’s unheard of. And Sunday’s lip sync battle was just as unforgettable. Here was the lineup:
Bunk 2A – We Don’t Talk About Bruno (Encanto)
In a callback to years past, Bunk 2A took the stage with a staggering presentation of Encanto’s most famous song. Complete with movie-accurate costumes and presence, the phenomenal performance culminated in a circle over the quodlibet.
Bunk 9A+9B – Golden (KPop Demon Hunters)
If you thought you couldn’t go anywhere in 2025 without hearing this song, you wouldn’t be surprised by Bunk 9’s choice of song. Their performance was tight, exhilarating, and unforgettably glittery.
Bunk 8A – FE!N (Travis Scott) and Bang Bang (Jessie J) Mix
Led by lip-sync connoisseur counselors Sam Stern and Brandon Geddis, and Broadway legend Fabi Rihl, Bunk 8A began with a classic pump fake using Travis Scott’s “FE!N,” popularized by the unforgettable TikTok Rizz Party. They then switched to an explosive version of “Bang Bang.” The crowd was in awe and on their feet the entire time.
Bunk 3A – Halo/Walking on Sunshine (Glee)
A loving homage, the performance from Bunk 3A exceeded our wildest dreams. Using their amazing stage-presence and use of choreography, they were able to take home the Best Choreography Award.
Wel-B-Yon D – Stick to the Status Quo (High School Musical)
Beginning with a creative shout and a cheer, Bunk 4A leapt into their take on “Someday.” Whether green or pink, zombie or cheerleader, they surely deserved one of the highest honors of the night — Elsa’s personal creation, The Cutest Eva award.
Bunk 2B – Sk8er Boi (Avril Lavigne)
The third “Sk8er Boi” from Bunk 2B might have been the last performance of the song, but it was certainly not forgettable. Unlike other bunks, 2B rotated Lavigne’s role throughout the song and kept it fresh through creative arrangements.
Bunk 8B – The Schuyler Sisters (Hamilton)
The perennial crowd-favorite Bunk 8B followed up with a surprising rendition of Hamilton’s “The Schuyler Sisters,” a song about women in America’s past played by the young men of its future. Coordinated, dedicated, and extremely energetic, 8B’s practice paid off in a standing ovation and thunderous applause.
Wel-B-Yon C – Sk8er Boi (Avril Lavigne)
Sunday’s first song set a strong tone for the rest of the night. Wel-B-Yon C wowed the crowd with choreography and chemistry; the majority of the bunk has been together for over five years. As last year’s defending champions, you knew they would put on a show.
Wel-B-Yon A – The Hanging Tree (The Hunger Games)
Beginning with total darkness, flashlights illuminated the stage one by one as Wel-B-Yon A began their chilling interpretation of “The Hanging Tree.” A complete tonal shift from the rest of the night, their dance was quiet, haunting, and undeniably unique.
Wel-B-Yon B – Sk8er Boi (Avril Lavigne)
Gorgeous homemade props, including their beautifully-made planets, thrust Wel-B-Yon B’s rendition of “Sk8er Boi” into the stratosphere. Their performance exuded both punk rock and bunk friendship, ending on a triumphant note.
Bunk 4A – Someday (Zombies)
Beginning with a creative shout and a cheer, Bunk 4A leapt into their take on “Someday.” Whether green or pink, zombie or cheerleader, they surely deserved one of the highest honors of the night — Elsa’s personal creation, The “Cutest Eva” award.
Bunk 4B – One Jump Ahead (Aladdin)
Stupendous stage combat led the way as Bunk 4B’s creative rendering of “One Step Ahead” took the crowd by storm. Whether by sword fights, stage jumps, or monkey-inspired dancing, Aladdin’s iconic song blasted this bunk into lip-sync infamy.
Bunk 3B – Did I Mention (Descendants)
As soon as the members of Bunk 3B flipped around to reveal the letters of “ridiculous,” their version of “Did I Mention” from the movie Descendants was sure to go down in lip-sync history. Synchronized dancing and pitch-perfect movement combined to form an epic penultimate tribute.
At the end of the Lip Sync Battle, judges Elsa and Lena gave out awards: Wel-B-Yon A took home first place, Bunk 8B got second place, and Bunks 8A and Wel-B-Yon C tied for third. After a day full of surprises, practicing, and performing, campers returned to their bunks, plates in tow, satisfied and ready for another chance next year. Hey, maybe then there’ll be four “Sk8er Boi”s. One can only dream.
