On my second night of camp, I was missing my dog. My siblings and parents, too, but mainly my dog. I suddenly had an idea about what to write for newspaper.
At WriCampia, we are a very accepting and loving bunch. Accommodations are made for every person, and unique qualities are welcomed and celebrated, so it should make sense that we love our quirky pets, right?
After gathering data from a few interviews with WriCampians, it is clear that at WriCampia, those of us who have pets love our pets dearly and miss them “so so so so so so much,” as Middle Camper Devi B. said about her dog, Benji.
Quite a few of us see our pets’ qualities in ourselves, or relate to them like family members. This is true, since they are such vital parts of our lives, and we love them like our siblings, or the siblings we never had. “I’m an only child. My cat’s not my brother, but I think if he was a human, he would be my brother,” said Neva A.O., about her cat, Bergen, who is named after a street in Brooklyn.
Since at WriCampia, we are a very interesting and smart group of people, we have made a wide variety of efforts to teach our pets random tricks over the years.
A lot of people have the basics down, such as sit, lay down, and paw, but Upper Camper Austin G.Z. ‘s dog Perra can jump up high, and Middle Camper Leo K.’s cats, Oz and Oscar, and lizard, Dexter, have mastered the art of being lazy and sleepy.
So overall, we WriCampians love our pets, hope to see them soon, have their imprints in our hearts, and will forever.
